5 Worst Foods You Can Eat In Malaysia

Malaysia is such a culinary heaven. Food is available round the clock in most places, but unfortunately, not all of them are healthy choices that we can eat everyday, although most people do so because it's fast and cheap. If you are like me, on a program to lose the excess weight, then here are the TOP 5 worst foods that you MUST skip (Although... I didn't say you can't eat it once a week as a treat! :P )

1. Nasi Lemak

This one just popped right into my head. Full of carbs and negligible protein, it is the worst food if you are trying to lose weight without exercise. Added fat from the coconut milk in the rice and excess oil in sambal doesn't help either.

** If you are eating it as a treat on an off day, make sure you don't go crazy on the rice, ask for more protein (like boiled eggs, chicken, beef etc.).

2. Roti Canai

Another one with virtually no protein. Just a dough of carbs fried in oil... Yummy...

** If you are eating it as a treat on an off day, ask for roti telur or roti sardin instead. With the additional protein from eggs and sardines, it fills you up longer and gives your muscle the protein it needs.

3. Nasi Kandar

This one here is available virtually around the clock. The food here is actually not too bad if you avoid the deep fried stuff. Opt for smaller portions of rice (as they usually bombard you with mountains of it!), stick to lean meat and fish, you should be safe from a high calorie meal.

4. Char Kuey Teow

Dear father, forgive me for I have sinned. I have eaten so many of these in the past. I simply cannot resist the succulent and springy texture of the Penang kuey teow, infused with such generous amounts of lard and chilli, not to forget the HUGE prawns that comes with it... Yummy... But seriously... Save this as a super special treat! It's well worth the wait (I meant the Penang ones only though :P )

5. Kuih-Muih

They say good stories always have sweet endings. Just don't let it be this. Malaysian nyonya kuihs are really unique, however, most of them are made with glutenous rice flour and coconut milk, not to mention lots of SUGAR!

Part of my life's philosophy is to indulge in the finer things in life. To do so, just work hard and lose the weight, while having some of these great foods as your special treat, as a reward once in a while, but don't overdo it of course! What good is life if you can't sample some of the bad?

Now where can I find a nasi lemak stall...
